Alistair joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 1986 and served his early career in operational roles in Hounslow and Kensington. He led teams in neighbourhood policing and emergency response roles, and worked within crime squads tackling burglary, robbery, and drugs supply.
After several promotions, Alistair became Chief Superintendent in 2009. He set up a new unit that would take responsibility for implementing recommendations from the Stockwell report for the MPS, primarily around the Command and Control of firearms operations. Following this posting he led SCO19 Specialist Firearms Unit for a three-year period, taking on command roles at high profile public events, developing and commanding specialist firearms security and response plans at the Royal Wedding 2011, London Riots of 2011, and the London 2012 Olympic Games.
He was promoted to Commander in 2014 and in 2016 he joined the City of London Police as Assistant Commissioner. He currently holds national policing portfolios for the private security industry. He is the National Lead for Counter Terrorism Command & Control and is a Course Director of the Counter Terrorism Commander’s Course. In 2018 he was awarded the Queen’s Policing Medal for distinguished services to policing. Alistair joined British Transport Police in 2021, as Deputy Chief Constable.
