Momentum Security Career Mentor Programme

What is Momentum?

A newly designed pilot career mentoring programme launched on 23rd January 2025 created by the Security Skills Board to develop and retain talent currently working in the private security industry. An opportunity for private security employers to invest in their people, commit to the Skills Pledge and to give back to industry through participation in a programme with huge social value.

The programme will train 30 Career Mentors from around the UK who will promote the benefits of working in the industry to their local schools, colleges and at career fairs. They will be attracting new entrants to our industry whilst working towards a Level 3 CMI certificate in Coaching and Mentoring.

Learners will start the 12 month programme with a welcome event on Thursday 27th March 2025 and will benefit from a series of skills workshops, master classes and supervision wrapped around their formal qualification.

An inclusive development opportunity with 25 paid places from top employers ‘giving back to the industry’ with up to 5 sponsored places for Micro/SMEs. Everyone will all go through a recruitment application process to ensure fairness and transparency.

Who is it for?

  • Those with a keen interest in giving back to their employer, colleagues and local community.
  • Those committing to attend careers fairs, schools and colleges one day per month to champion the private security industry as a career of choice, by sharing their own experiences.
  • Individuals who strive for boosted job performance & career progression opportunities.
  • Applicants will need a minimum of 2+ years’ experience working in the private security industry (all sectors considered).
  • Positive people who want to share and develop their knowledge and skills in the workplace.
  • People with experience of using Microsoft office packages e.g. PowerPoint, Word etc
  • Preferable to have supervisory/team leader experience, but this is not essential.

Important Information

  • There are 5 sponsored spaces which means that the course costs have been fully covered by the remaining paid places from top Security Industry employers. This does not include any travel or subsidence for the learner. They are specifically ring fenced to be allocated to Micro & Small to Medium Sizes businesses with a headcount of under 500.
  • Under Positive Action, Equality Act (2010), we would like to encourage women to come forward and apply. We are doing this because the industry in underrepresented in terms of Gender Diversity which is something we would like to support.   
  • Commitment from employer to release the learner/mentor 1 day per month to carry out mentoring activities either internally within their own organisations or externally at career fairs, schools, colleges etc. Any school or college visits would be accompanied removing the requirement for DBS clearance.
  • There must be 360 commitments from learner, line manager and employer from all applicants to complete the course with agreed allocated time to participate in external event attendance and all programme learning activities. In order to be successful through the application stage, a learning agreement will be signed by all parties once applicants are confirmed. Supporting statements from all parties must be included in the application to be assessed.
