David has worked in the fire and security sector since he was 17. Having completed an apprenticeship with Skills for Security in the fire emergency and security sector, he moved quickly into education, where he has spent the best part of his career training the future engineers of tomorrow.
David was given the opportunity to return to Skills for Security in 2019 as Managing Director with the remit of driving the strategic goals of the organisation. David’s own personal goals are to remove barriers to education in this sector by making training more accessible; improving standards and increasing awareness of the fire and security sectors as promising careers.
David has run two successful WSUK (WorldSkills UK) competitions. The security sector is now represented at this national level as a career of choice and David has secured funding and support for the fire sector to be represented from 2022.
David’s ongoing ambition is to have over 3,000 delegates enrolled on Fire and Security apprenticeships across the UK over the next few years, to eradicate the skills crisis and meet growing customer demand.
